Domestic travel spots Aussies most wanted to go this year, according to Google
If you've been dreaming of getting away this year, you're not alone.
Aussies researching holidays on Google (no doubt when they're supposed to be working) is a good indication of where is on their mind
The search giant has revealed it's top ten domestic travel search trends of the year
The 'trending' queries are the searches that had the highest spike in traffic over a sustained period in 2024 as compared to 2023, Google said.
Read on to see where everyone has been Googling the most.
9. Launceston
"Flights to Launceston from Melbourne," was a hot search, with Tasmania's second city offering a wholesome getaway.
8. Karratha
A more unpredictable holiday spot to Google, but "Flights to Karratha" in the Pilbara region of Western Australia landed at number eight.
It's an untouched area to visit, far from the crowds.
7. Port Hedland
Another part of Western Australia, "Flights to Port Hedland" was something holidaymakers were keen to find out about.
6. Surfers Paradise
Flights to the classic Aussie destination Surfers Paradise on Queensland's Gold Coast were a big search topic.
5. Brisbane
Plenty of people wanted to find "Cheap flights to Brisbane from Melbourne," Google said.
4. Sydney
The famous Sydney Harbour is no doubt part of the attraction for visitors coming from other parts of the nation.
"Flights to Sydney from Ballina," in particular saw a spike in searches from folk from northern NSW looking to head south.
3. Melbourne
Entering the top three travel search spikes, and "Jetstar cheap flights to Melbourne," was trending in 2024.
2. King Island
An unusual entry at number two was "Flights to King Island".
The Tasmanian destination is famous for pristine landscapes and beaches, food, as well as golf courses.
1. Gold Coast
There's no getting away from it, the Gold Coast is a perfect spot for a holiday.
In particular folk from Melbourne were keen to head north, with 'cheap flights' between the cities the top trending domestic travel search phrase of the year.
