Your pre-flight checklist probably includes things like packing your suitcase, watering your plants, and stocking up on snacks for the plane.

And it probably doesn't include heading to the hardware store.

But for one flight attendant, that's exactly where she stocks up on her travel essentials.

A US-based flight attendant named CiCi has shared three things that she never flies without, all of which are from the hardware store. Meet your new best friends: bungee cords, shoe covers and carabiners

The first item is shoe covers, which are especially handy when travelling through airports that require you to take your shoes off during security checks.

"Just slip your shoes off, put these on and walk through the security scanner germ-free," she says in the TikTok video, which has hundreds of thousands of views.

"They can also be placed on your feet in your hotel room if you're worried about germs," she adds.

And if you can't find shoe covers, shower caps taken from your hotel room work just as well.

Secondly, CiCi swears by bungee cords as the perfect tool to keep everything in its rightful place.

"Attach your pillow to your luggage," she commentates while demonstrating.

"And if your [suitcase] handle breaks for some reason, just attach this here and just drag it," she adds.

And finally, CiCi shares just how valuable a humble carabiner can be for travellers.

"Use these to attach your water bottle to your bag so they don't fall on people's heads when you put it in the overhead bin," she shares, adding, "it's happened a lot."

Carabiners can also be used to attach shopping bags or pillows to your backpack, both in the airport and also while you're on your holiday. They're also great for strapping wet swimming costumes to your bag after a swim at the beach.
