Flight attendant explains why you should never buy extra seats on a plane for 'leg room'
A former flight attendant has shocked potential flyers by revealing the reason why they shouldn't be buying multiple economy-class tickets simply for the extra leg room.
Responding to a video of a woman who did exactly that, former US flight attendant, Kat, explained in a TikTok that this was a bad idea.
"People would buy extra seats but if that flight was really full, and there are standby passengers, or people who are (non-reservation), the gate agent is going to give them that seat if there is not a physical body in that seat," Kat revealed.

I would probably not do this," she said, adding in the caption that, "It was drama every time I saw it with the gate agents."
Commenters were outraged by this practice.
"This should be illegal, they shouldn't be allowed to sell seats they don't have, and if you buy seats you should get them," said one commenter.
"So she paid for that space but the airline will just take more money and put someone else there?" another asked in disbelief.
"Why would there be extra people? Planes sell only the amount of seats don't they?" asked one commenter, with another clarifying, "Because there is always a percentage that people won't come so (the airlines) overbook their seats"

Many were even more astounded when they heard the person who bought the seats doesn't get refunded if the extra seats are taken.

"No refunds, doesn't matter in the terms of when you purchase your ticket, if the people are not there they lose their seat," explained one commenter.
But some disagreed. "People complaining that it's unfair but what's unfair is you missing a flight because there's no seats since people want to buy them to lay down on," said another commenter.
