Flight attendant explains the noises you don't want to hear on an airplane

A flight attendant has explained what all the sounds passengers may hear during flights mean.

He said there's only one sequence that is cause for concern.

Tommy Cimato, who shares content on TikTok @tommycimato, begins his popular video by saying: "Have you ever heard these sounds on a plane before? Do you ever wonder what that means?"

The flight attendant has explained what each of the noises means in a popular video. TikTok

He said one chime indicates a passenger is calling for a flight attendant, either "from their seat or they could be calling us from the lavatory.

Three are cause for concern, but rare.

"If you hear three of those high-low chimes, that means it's an emergency – but you never have to hear that," he said.

And the sequence for flight attendants contacting each other or the flight deck is a little different.

"A high-low chime means that one flight attendant is trying to call the other flight attendant or the flight deck is trying to call us," he said.

The video has been viewed 12.2 million times.

"I thought it meant the seatbelt sign as changing," one TikToker commented.

"Almost 5 years of flying to and from college and I never knew," one said.

"Ohhhh thank you for that! I always wondered what it was. I thought it was the seatbelt thing but it didn't make sense," another comment.

Of the information about the three chimes, one TikToker said: "Fun fact: If you hear 3 chimes, it's probably your last time hearing it."

Another shared their experience of hearing three chimes during a flight.

"I heard the 3 tone before had a woman have a serious medical issue flight attendants asked if there was anyone on board with medical training," they explained.

"I wish I could unknow that," another shared.
