Emirates sets new record for the shortest flight route serviced by an A380

Emirates has announced they'll be using Airbus A380s for flights between Doha, Qatar, to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on what will be the shortest route serviced by the super jets.

The journey takes less than an hour, which is practically an insult to the double-decker planes which are capable of more than 17 hours flight before refuelling.  It’s like using a diamond-encrusted sledgehammer to crack an in-flight peanut. 

Despite the short distance, these planes will be fitted in the same manner as the company’s long-haul aircraft, with both the first class suites and business class flat-beds to be found on the top deck.

But a power nap is the best you'll be able to hope for, with passengers barely having time to recline before the fasten seatbelt sign comes on for landing.

Economy seats on the lower deck will also be able to accommodate 429 guests, albeit in much-less opulent surrounds.

If you want more time to luxuriate on the Emirates planes, the longest direct flight they operate is between Auckland, New Zealand, and Dubai, which takes over 16 hours.
