The best places to visit during the Easter holidays this year

With Easter and ANZAC Day falling so close together this year, Aussies have a rare chance to turn a four-day break into a full week of holidaying.

But even without taking the week off, there are still plenty of quick and relaxing weekend escapes in and beyond Australia .

Reflections Holidays CEO Nick Baker has shared some advice to maximise the Easter four-day break, saying it's important to make every moment count.

"I recommend locking in your plans early, as accommodation around public holidays fills up fast," he tells 9Travel.

Picking a location that's easy to get to is also important, he says, so you're spending less time travelling and more relaxing.

If driving is unavoidable, then hitting the road early in the morning or later in the evening will help you avoid busy holiday traffic.

"Once you're there, try to find a balance between adventure and downtime, so the getaway feels more fulfilling without becoming a checklist of tasks," Nick says.

This might mean spending one day sight-seeing and the next day just relaxing. Try not to squeeze in as much as possible, but make the most of being in your surroundings, away from everyday life.

"Whether it's hiking through a national park or unwinding by the beach, being outdoors can truly recharge both your body and mind," Nick says.

He also recommends making sure you plan well, pack snacks, download maps, and have a rough idea of what you want to do at your destination so you're not wasting time figuring it out when you get there.
