If you've been looking for a sign to book a trip to Hong Kong, this may just be it.

Cathay Pacific has just announced a major flight deal with its Companion Offer, that will basically see one person fly for 'free'.

The two-for-one deal covers two adult return economy tickets to Hong Kong from any Australian port, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

Two passengers in the same booking and travelling together on economy tickets will pay full price for the first eligible ticket (including base fare, taxes and applicable surcharges) but for the second eligible ticket, they will only pay taxes and applicable surcharges.

That means the return trip for both people will only cost around $1500.

The offer is for travel between July 9, 2024 and March 31, 2025, with a travel duration of two to 30 days.

But you'll need to be quick.

While this deal is on until August 30, it is only available for the first 6,500 bookings.

Best time to travel to Hong Kong

There isn't a peak season for travel to Hong Kong, like there is for other destinations - it's a buzzing city year-round. To avoid the worst of the heat and humidity, avoid visiting in July or August.

The months with the mildest, most comfortable temperatures are March/April and October/November.

July through September is also a time to avoid if possible, as this is peak typhoon season and your travel plans could be disrupted by storms.

Hong Kong may not be top of every Aussie's travel to-do list but, in less than a 10-hour flight from Sydney, it's well worth the trip.
