‘Spending less than ever’: Couple has been living on a cruise ship for three years
For the past three years, Libby Rome and her husband have been living and working remotely from cruise ships.
Having already spent 16 years as digital nomads, after packing up their home and selling most of their belongings, the couple now live “worry free” and share some of their adventures on social media.

“I wake up in a new country every few days, and I enjoy the benefits of cruising all year round,” Libby shared in a post on Instagram.
“Somehow I am spending less than I ever did on land. There’s a strategy behind how we keep costs low, the cruise lines we choose, and how we structure our lifestyle to make it sustainable.”
Libby said one of the most asked questions they get is how much it really costs to live on a cruise ship.
“We’ve cracked the code. We live on Princess cruise ships, travel around Europe, and do it all for just $US33 ($46) per person, per day,” she said in another post.

Originally from Texas in the USA, Libby initially started downsizing her life after moving to Canada, before they packed everything up and decided to travel the world instead.
“I’ve been working remotely as an IT consultant, moving countries and taking on different jobs, and then also working remotely. So that’s why we lived in hotels and started travelling around,” she told People.
Eventually, they wanted to mix things up again and decided to hit the high seas.

With transportation, food, accommodation and entertainment basically taken care of, Libby said they only really need to bother with the essentials which helps keep costs down.
“We are both thrilled and excited to have this really neat lifestyle where we don’t really have to worry about much, no chores and no errands, and we’re having fun. We absolutely love it,” she said.
