The best destinations for young families around the world
Travel is still high on the agenda for many but families with younger kids may find it a bit harder to choose exactly where to go.
With so many great cities to visit, it can be hard to know which best cater to children and babies.
That's why travel experts at Planet Cruise have ranked the best city breaks for younger families.
This list considers many factors to make your holiday smoother and stress-free, looking at factors such as average elevation (for those pushing prams), safety score, average summer temperature, number of child friendly activities, and number of parks.
Here are the best options for young families, including two Aussie cities.
10. Singapore
Singapore has lots to offer from shopping, to water activities, foodie adventures and over 270 child-friendly activities. Add to that 170 parks to choose from at the city-state lands in tenth spot for family friendly city breaks.
8. Amsterdam, Netherlands
In eighth place, Amsterdam offers plenty for a family holiday. Cruise down the canals, or ride a bike around the streets. Plus a famous stroopwaffel as a treat is sure to light up any child's face. It also has the best elevation score.
4. Rome, Italy
In fourth place is Rome. The Italian capital is a little tricky with a pram with an average elevation of 123m, but offers a high safety score and over 700 child-friendly activities.
Villa Borghese, Rome's central park, is great for tots with several open-air playgrounds and a miniature train. Rome also has one castle, Castel Sant'Angelo, which is absolutely wonderful for kids.
3. Paris, France
With a huge number of child-friendly activities (544) and plenty of parks and open spaces to explore, Paris comes in at number three overall.
While world-class art and culture museums might sound a little boring for younger ones, Paris actually has dedicated children's museums, including the magic museum, Musée de la Magie.
2. London, UK
London takes second place on the worldwide leaderboard. With low elevation levels at 66, it will be perfect to push a pram around and not tire out the kids too quickly.
London by far has the largest number of child friendly activities with a total of 724 activities altogether.
When visiting London, families won't run out of fun things to keep their children busy. Or if you're looking to relax, London also has the largest number of parks to visit at a total of 282 altogether.
1. Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo takes the top spot overall as the best city break for young families.
With the highest number of parks around the city (641) to spend time with your family, whilst keeping the costs down. The average summer temperature is 24 degrees, a perfect temperature to explore the city with a family.
Shinjuku Gyoen boasts manicured lawns and serene ponds, while Yoyogi Park is renowned for its golden-leaved ginkgo trees. However, if you're travelling to Japan's capital with kids, consider visiting the small Dinosaur Park in Shinagawa or Akagi Children's Park, a hidden gem featuring an adorable elephant-shaped slide.
