Three Aussie cities named among the best locations in the world for thrill seekers
Do you enjoy the feeling of your heart pumping and blood rushing? From skydiving to rushing rapids and breathtaking caves in every corner of the globe, there are adrenaline-inducing activities to push you out of your comfort zone.
A new study has looked at search volume data around adrenaline sports, the number of adrenaline-rushing activities and the percentage of challenging hiking and biking trails to find the top 10 places in the world for thrill seekers.
And three Aussie cities have made the list.
10. Sydney
Coming in tenth place is Sydney with the largest search volume at out of all Australian cities at 91.6 per capita and 445 hiking trails and 79 biking trails that are considered 'moderate' or 'difficult'.
9. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
While search volume isn't high for adventure travel in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital offers 344 'moderate' to 'difficult' hiking spots.
8. Barcelona, Spain
Hikes, quad and mountain biking, bungee jumping, hot air balloons, car racing and more are on offer in the rugged Catalonian countryside around Barcelona, placing it at number eight on the list.
7. Brisbane, Australia
Brisbane lands in seventh place with 388 hiking trails being considered 'moderate' or 'difficult'. The city also has a search volume for adrenaline activities at 81.5 per capita and 30 adrenaline attractions.
6. Melbourne, Australia
Melbourne has been crowned the sixth best city for risk-takers across the world with 327 hiking trails being considered 'moderate' or 'difficult' and 181 bike trails named 'moderate' or 'difficult' - the highest of the three Australian cities ranked.
4. Whistler, Canada
Whistler has the highest number of Google searches for adrenaline seeking activities and the highest number of adrenaline activities per capita in Canada.
It placed fourth overall.
2. Los Angeles, USA
The US city of Los Angeles may be known for its celebrities, but the land of the stars is also a haven for risk takers. With 3,600 monthly searches for both 'snowboarding' and 'rock climbing', and 633 difficult hiking trails, LA can offer a thrilling experience.
1. Interlaken, Switzerland
Interlaken, Switzerland has been crowned the best city for risk takers across the world with 662 bike trails being considered moderate or difficult. It also has the highest search volume for adrenaline-seeking activities within the top 10 at an impressive 2072.2 per capita.
