All the must-do activities for a trip to Perth, from viral chocolate to quokka selfies

Perth is set to play host to a number of sporting events in the next few months: the State of Origin, four Matildas matches, the Bledisloe Cup and the Ashes, to name just a few.

That means it's the perfect time to squeeze in a trip to the city and soak up all it has to offer.

From hiking in the Perth hills and sipping wine at a vineyard to snapping a selfie with a quokka and chilling out in Fremantle, here are some must-see hidden gems in the West Australian capital.

Hang out - literally - at the footy stadium

When it's not playing host to the State of Origin or the Matildas, Optus Stadium offers an adrenaline-pumping activity for anyone who dares. First, take a trip up to the roof and experience the views from on top of the famous sails with the Halo Rooftop Tour.

Then, take it a step further with the Vertigo Experience, where you hang 42 metres above the pitch for panoramic views of Perth you won't forget.

You can't visit Perth without adding Rottnest Island to your itinerary. Sip on local brews

Then indulge in local wines

Explore WA's oldest wine region, Swan Valley, just 25 minutes from Perth city centre. Add to your checklist: award-winning wines at Nikola Estate, rich coffee tastings at Yahava Koffeeworks, and an Aboriginal bush tucker experience Dale Tilbroook.

Try the best chocolate of your life

Cap off your jaunt out of the city with a stop at the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. Try their tasty delights, including their latest viral Dubai-style chocolate strawberries, best enjoyed from the sun deck with stunning views over the Swan Valley.

Wander around Subiaco

Located just 5km to the northwest of Perth's city center, Subiaco is stepping into the spotlight with a wave of new energy. Known for its eclectic architecture and multicultural dining, it's a great alternative to the classic tourist neighbourhood of Northbridge.
