Japan's fans flock to a small Sydney hotel made famous by anime series

Sydney's Russell Hotel is attracting a particular type of international clientele after it was featured in an episode of a Japanese anime series titled Eternal Summer more than two years ago.

Since then, the hotel – which has just 30 rooms in total – has received a steady stream of bookings from largely Japanese tourists, with many specifically requesting room 25 (the quarters featured in the episode) up to a year in advance.

"Some will just fly in for one night here," he said.

"Almost everyone who does book the room stands in the doorway and giggles when we open the door."

Russell Hotel General Manager Gary Quass told news.com.au he's sold almost 500 of the native Australian flora and fauna-themed key rings used by fictional characters in the series online, sending them as far as Mexico, China, and Canada.

And if you doubted the fans' dedication, Quass added that many arrived to the hotel dresses as Eternal Summer's main characters Rin and Haru.
