Eerie footage reveals tragic past of Australia's most haunted island

Katherine Scott

In the commotion of the Sydney Biennale festival, Cockatoo Island seems more akin to an amusement park than a decaying old shipyard.

But amid the bright and quirky art displays, and crowds of people swarming the cavernous structures, there are skeletons and secrets buried within the corroded walls and tunnels.

For those who dare delve into the island's dark and eerie past, there are Haunted History tours, which begin at dusk on select days of the month.
