Meet the Aussie accountant who just won an island resort in a raffle

Meet 26 year-old Joshua Ptasznyk. He’s a very ordinary Wollongong accountant who has just won the world’s most extraordinary raffle prize - an entire tropical island resort.

The multimillion dollar island getaway is located on the Micronesian island of Kosrae in the western Pacific Ocean. The Kosrae Nautilus Resort stretches over three acres, has 16 bedrooms, is fully staffed and debt free.

Mr Ptasznyk told the Daily Telegraph that he bought tickets to the raffle on a whim while he was surfing the net on a lunchbreak.

“What started as a simple click of a news article during my lunch break that piqued my interest has resulted in a life-changing experience that I could only dream of,” he said.

Mr Ptasznyk spent $129 on three raffle tickets, beating 75,000 other entrants from over 150 different countries.

The competition was set up by the Beitz family who built the resort in 1994. They moved to Kosrae for a sea change but have since decided to move back to the Gold Coast where they plan to spend more time with family.

The raffle was their way of passing on their legacy to someone who dreamed of living on an island paradise rather than selling it to the highest bidder.

The Beitz family has come away with around $4 million in raffle ticket sales.
