Amy Nelmes Bissett

From poached eggs and avo with a side of crispy bacon, to acai bowls paired with fresh pressed juices, Australia’s love for breakfast food is undeniable.

And the great "Aussie brunch" is currently the go to in LA, London and New York, with several cafes popping-up serving sourdough stacks.

But it looks like we're leaving it all behind, with the rise of the Asian breakfast now the option de jour in Australia.

In the last few months, poached eggs are being firmly replaced with breakfast rice bowls, with fried eggs and spicy noodles across the country.

And now hotels are picking-up on the trend, with The Hotel Windsor in Melbourne now offering an Asian rice dish on their new breakfast menu.

So, if the extent of your endeavour into Asian inspired breakfast is cold takeaway the morning after a night out, why not go out and try the real deal?

SYDNEY

Mother Chu's Taiwanese Gourmet, located in Sydney's Chinatown is one of the more popular breakfast locations in the area.

Open as early as 8.30am, the restaurant is famous for its hearty, carb-filled foods making it the perfect breakfast destination.

Options include congee (Asian broth made from rice), egg pancake, fried bread sticks, soymilk and more.

Fried breadsticks dunked in soymilk is a cheap and fun breakfast option.

The menu is fairly extensive, offering a variety of sweet and savoury dishes and drinks.

Our breakfast pick is the savoury soybean milk for just $4. The Taiwanese dish is a custard-like curd, which floats in a clean soup stock.

It is easy to get to by tram from the city and serves breakfast from 6.30 am. While the eatery offers a westernised breakfast for less inclined guests, the modern Malaysian 'Shop House' breakfast menu is jam-packed with Asian delicacies.

Our pick is their take on the traditional Chinese pancake. A Jian Bing crepe loaded with sunny side up eggs, pork floss, slices of Chinese doughnut and fresh red chilli, all drizzled with hoi sin sauce and finished with fresh sprigs of coriander.

All washed down with a spot of Muscat oolong tea, scented with Muscat grapes. Orient East is a Melbourne breakfast must.

Our pick is to begin with the Chee Chong Fun with chicken and mushrooms. These rice paper rolls pack an intense and irresistible array of flavour.

Topped with siu mei (spit roasted meat) drippings this dish is difficult to pass up.

A delicious follow up is the Roti with butter and sugar. The flaky, buttery, insanely delicious flatbread dusted with light sugar is in a rich buttery sauce.
