Aussie holiday favourite among Tripadvisor's 'top destinations' for 2025
Each year, Tripadvisor pores over millions of reviews shared by a global community of travellers to put together the 'Travelers' Choice Awards' featuring the 'Best of the Best Destinations'.
The awards celebrate destinations with the highest ratings and reviews from global travellers over the past year.
Here are the top 10 destinations in the world right now for 2025.
10. Bangkok, Thailand
Kicking off Tripadvisor's top 10 is Bangkok, Thailand. While the city can be intense, experts say "for travellers craving local secrets and 24/7 energy, there's nowhere like it".
The Grand Palace, pictured, is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, and has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam since 1782.
9. Crete, Greece
The largest Greek island is also known as the birthplace of ancient Minoan civilisation (think: BCE), which means there are endless ruins and historic sites to uncover.
And of course a stunning coastline featuring crystal clear blue waters. Crete places in ninth on the list.
7. Rome, Italy
The Trevi Fountain has shrugged off its renovation and Rome remains as one of the most popular destinations in 2025.
"There's history everywhere (the Pantheon, the Colosseum, the list goes on), sculptural masterpieces in almost every piazza, and – of course – ridiculously good food," Tripadvisor states.
5. Paris, France
Despite the buzz of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games being over, the French capital remains a firm favourite.
Placing in fifth, Tripadvisor calls out the city's "unbelievable food and culture, plus stunning views everywhere you turn".
4. Sicily, Italy
Coming in fourth is the Italian island of Sicily. The Mediterranean spot offers everything that makes Italy a major destination: beaches, wine, food, and architecture – but all with a Sicilian twist.
3. Dubai, UAE
In third place is Dubai. From the ultra-modern Burj Khalifa to the souks and malls filled with gold and jewellery vendors, it's a place where, according to Tripadvisor "if you can dream it, you can do it".
Whether that means skiing indoors, dune-surfing in the desert, or zip-lining above the city.
2. Bali, Indonesia
In second place is an Aussie holiday favourite. Bali packs a lot into one small island – from breathtaking waterfalls like Sekumpul in the north to the white sand beaches of Nyang Nyang in the south.
Whatever you're seeking, you'll probably find: surf-able waves in Batu Bolong, all-night clubs in Seminyak, luxury clifftop hotels in Nusa Dua, and spiritual refuges all around.
Snap a pic at the Gateway to Heaven, cut through the jungle to the hidden Gunung Kawi Temple, and catch the sunset and a traditional fire dance at Uluwatu Temple.
1. Osaka, Japan
Tripadvisor also unveiled its top 'trending' destinations, with Osaka, Japan, taking the number one spot based on year-on-year growth of reviews.
Known as 'the nation's kitchen', Osaka has a thriving food scene, as well as great shopping and nightlife. It is also the perfect base for exploring the Kansai region, which is home to multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
1. Seoul, South Korea
This year also sees the launch of a new category, Solo Travel Destinations.
This list features many major global cities, with South Korean capital, Seoul taking the top spot, perfect for anyone heading out on an adventure alone, according to Tripadvisor.
