Watch Air Vanuatu bring their newest plane into the world

If you're the kind of traveller who enjoys the flight as much as your destination, you'll get a kick out this time-lapse video of Air Vanuatu's newest plane being born.

The sleek aircraft — which is the first ATR 72-600 of the Air Vanuatu fleet — goes through the final stages of construction in Toulouse, France.

The process requires the involvement of specialised artisans down to the final painting process, which is completed by hand.

Perhaps that's why the "ATR" is an anagram of "art"?

The aircraft costs over $30m, can carry up to 70 passengers, and has the widest cabin in the turboprop market.

A number of domestic airlines, including Virgin Australia have ATR-600s in their fleet.
