Milan manholes transformed into secret rooms

Opening a manhole cover and peering in would usually result in spotting a few miscellaneous pieces and perhaps a lot of mess.

But not in the Lodi district of Milan, where an artist has transformed the small subterranean spaces into secret rooms.

Yes, they're not for the claustophic of us but that's what Biancoshock intended to highlight through his work, posted on Instagram.

He hopes to create awareness about those living in extreme conditions and the less fortunate of us who reside in cramped quarters.

The artist commended: "If some problems cannot be avoided, make them comfortable."

And comfortable they are. The rooms feature a small-scale domestic environment from teeny kitchens and showers, and decorated rooms displaying artwork.
