UFC fighter says battering of opponent should have stopped earlier

UFC fighter Roy ''Big Country'' Nelson was far from happy with having to continue punching his friend Antonio ''Bigfoot'' Silva during their bout in Brazil.

In a fight in which Big Country gave Bigfoot a big headache, Nelson’s post-fight disappointment showed that a least some UFC fighters have genuine concern for their opponents.

A powerful right from Nelson left Silva knocked out, but when the fight wasn’t stopped immediately, Nelson kept going.

After the fight he said there was no need for the bout to have continued for so long.

''When you knock someone out you know it is a home run. I could do the Mark Hunt and just walk off,'' Nelson said.

''But for me, I just wanted to knock him out. But I had to throw more punches, he is a friend, he has to go home to a family. To me I already know I’ve already won.''

The knockout win took Nelson into a tie for third for the most stoppages by a heavyweight.
