In a moment that has sparked outrage, a male spectator has been filmed snatching a match-worn cap from a young tennis fan at the US Open.

The cap was originally gifted to the boy by Polish player Kamil Majchrzak as he signed autographs on Saturday (AEDT), following his upset win over ninth seed Karen Khachanov.

The incident was caught on video and shared online.

In a video of the exchange, one particularly eager young fan can be seen handing Majchrzak a giant tennis ball to sign.

Seeing the boy's enthusiasm, Majchrzak took off his cap and handed it to the boy before continuing down the line of fans.

However, the man standing beside the boy snatched the keepsake before shoving it into a woman's bag.

"What are you doing?" the boy can be heard yelling at the man.

The man then appeared to ignore the child's pleas as Majchrzak continued signing autographs, unaware that the boy had not received the cap.

The footage of the incident quickly made its way onto social media and has since led to widespread condemnation.

After being made aware of the act, Majchrzak took to his social media and asked the public to help him find the boy.

"After the match, I didn't record that my cap didn't get to the boy," he wrote alongside screenshots of the heartbroken young fan.

"Thanks to @asicstennis I've got enough caps, so I'm prepared for that.

"Hey, guys, could you help me find the Kid from my match. If it's you (or your parents see this), please send me a DM."

The boy was located only an hour later, with Majchrzak admitting he was "impressed by the power of the internet" in remedying the situation.

Majchrzak will next face Swiss player Leandro Riedi on Sunday. A win would secure him a spot in the fourth round and mark his best-ever result at the US Open.
