Robredo flips the bird at Murray

Tommy Robredo has given world No. 10 Andy Murray a double barrelled, one-finger salute after the Brit saved five match points to win the final of the Valencia Open.

It was the second time in the space of a month that Murray had escaped the clutches of the Spanish star in a title decider.Robredo, who’d earlier squandered five match points before losing to the Murray in the final at the Shenzhen Open, was given the perfect opportunity to quickly defeat his demons and take out the former Wimbledon champion.But in a lighting-strikes-twice scenario, Murray would not go quietly into the night, staving off match point after match point before defeating the home favourite 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (10-8) in an incredible match that lasted three hours and 19 minutes. And as the combatants approached the net to shake hands in the time honoured show of sportsmanship, it was clear the twin defeats had taken their toll on Robredo.Instead of extending his hand to the champion, the 32-year-old Robredo gave Murray a double-barrelled one finger salute.In a move that would surely have shocked tennis fans had it not been for the jovial nature between the two stars, the gesture was all the worn-out Robredo could muster after a harrowing month.A laughing Murray, who now moves to fifth in the race for the ATP World Tour Finals, leans over the net, hugs his foe and pats him on the back, a consolation of sorts for two epically hard-fought showdowns.The two now move onto the Paris Masters where tennis purists will be hoping that Robredo, third time lucky, can finally grab that elusive match point.
