World No.1 Iga Swiatek confirms 'exciting' union with Naomi Osaka's ex-coach

Iga Swiatek is no stranger to making history on the tennis court, nor is her newly appointed coach Wim Fissette.

From Kim Clijsters to Victoria Azarenka, Fissette has helped many achieve greatness on the grand slam circuit.

Most recently, the Belgian-born tennis coach guided former world No.1 Naomi Osaka to four grand slam title matches.

Osaka parted ways with Fissette following an unfavourable run in her return to competition after the birth of her child.

The Japanese tennis player now works with Patrick Mouratoglou.

Fissette, 44, will now team up with world No.1 Swiatek, who parted ways with her coach of three years Tomasz Wiktorowski in early October.

Swiatek revealed her excitement over her new partnership on social media on Thursday evening.

"I have news for you today as I'm excited and motivated to start a new chapter, Swiatek wrote on Instagram.

"I'm happy to announce that Wim Fissette is joining our team. As you know, I'm preparing for the WTA Finals but my perspective is, as always, long-term, not short-term.

"I said many times that my career is a marathon for me, not a sprint and I'm working, operating and making decisions with this approach.

"I want to say that I'm very excited and looking forward to working with Wim. He seems to have a great attitude, vision and huge experience at the very top level of tennis.

"It's always crucial to try and get to know each other better but we're off to a good start and I can't wait to compete soon."

Swiatek did not attend the China Open due to her quest to acquire a new coach.

She is set to return to the professional circuit for the WTA Finals series.
