Naomi Osaka gifts super fan the moment of a lifetime at Australian Open

A super fan of world No.4 Naomi Osaka had a day to remember after the Japanese star shouted him out after her second round Australian Open win.

Osaka advanced to the third round of the tournament after defeating Zheng Saisai in straight sets, 6-2 6-4.

But in her post-match interview, she gave one lucky fan with the shout out of a lifetime.

Super fan Marcus, who runs a popular Instagram fan page of Osaka and regularly mentions her name on his twitter account, received a special mention from the tennis star herself.

The 22-year-old tennis star thanked Marcus for his support and admitted she "stalked" his twitter account after the fan successfully got her attention on social media.

"I know there's a person in the ninth row named Marcus, because I stalk your twitter," Osaka said.

"I see your tweets, so shout out and thanks for coming."

The Wide World of Sports team tracked Marcus down after the match and spoke to him about today's experience.

The fan confirmed he had been following Osaka for a number of years and had regularly tagged the tennis star's name on social media, often providing words of encouragement.

"I've been following Naomi for about five years," Marcus said.

"I've just been following her scores and matches and then I became more a big fan back in 2018.

"So, then I decided to make a make a fan page for her on Instagram.

"On twitter, I kept tagging, tweeting her and giving her words of encouragement.

"I tweeted this morning, something along the lines of 'I will see you there' and I tagged her name."

The super fan also admitted the shout out was unexpected, leaving him "shaking" as a result.

"I didn't expect her to give me a shout out at all."

"I was about to leave because she was about to walk off, then she stopped and mentioned me."

"I was shaking."
