Alexander Zverev and Jenson Brooksby set new record for latest ever finish to a match at Mexican Open
German superstar Alexander Zverev and American Jenson Brooksby have made history at the Mexican Open with the latest-finishing ATP encounter ever.
Zverev, ranked No.3 in the world, outlasted the American 3-6 7-6 (10) 6-2 in an opening round match that finished at 4.55am in Acapulco.
The 24-year-old German fought off two match points in the second set, which lasted just short of two hours.
The match started shortly after 1:30am local time and lasted three hours and 20 minutes.
The late finish overtook the Australian Open match between Lleyton Hewitt and Marcos Baghdatis in 2008 that finished at 4.34am.

"Right now I'm happy I won," Zverev said after the match.
"I don't know how Jenson feels, it must be difficult, but I'm happy to be a part of history.
"It was an incredible battle and an incredible match.
"Today I didn't play my best, there's no doubt about it. But I didn't give up, I knew I wanted to do well here.
"I'm the defending champion and I want to give myself the best chance to win. I did well surviving today."
