Yulia Putintseva loses temper with vicious racquet slams during 53-minute train wreck against American teen

Yulia Putintseva danced for the crowd in her third round match but there were no celebrations against American Iva Jović in the Australian Open round of 16.

18-year-old Jović was in scintillating form against the world No.94, winning 6-0, 6-1 in a 53-minute boilover.

Putintseva managed to keep her frustrations in check during the first set despite the bagel but by the second she'd had enough.

At 30-30 in the first game, Putintseva hit a shot wide and slammed the racquet down before gesturing towards her team.

"The frustration now starting to boil over, this is what can happen," caller Colin Fleming said on Nine.

Putintseva changed her socks and racquet after the game but it didn't make a difference as she went down 3-0.

The meltdown came again, throwing her racquet towards her seat and dropping it again when she sat down.

It looked like a tennis player simply unsure about what was going wrong.

Eventually the 31-year-old did snare a game and shared a big smile as the crowd roared.

But there'd be no miraculous comeback with Jović finishing strong.

The American is now through to her first quarter final and will play Aryna Sabalenka.

A confident Jović did not seem flustered at all by the occasion awaiting her.

"I think I'm just going to take care of my side of the net, obviously she's No.1 for a reason and had so much success at this tournament," she said.

"But that's what I want, I said last year that I hope to be able to play her this year because you definitely want to play the best and see how it goes so I'm really excited."
