'Not going to think about it': Teen sensation Mirra Andreeva's hilarious reaction to Australian Open statistic

Mirra Andreeva is yet to win a grand slam title, but she wasn't in the mood to let one promising trend about her chances throw her off course at the Australian Open.

The teenage sensation produced a dominant win in her second-round match at the on Wednesday evening, defeating Greece's Maria Sakkari in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.

All eyes were on the form of Andreeva as she glided across the court, showcasing a similar strategy to the one that won her the Adelaide International last week.

Andreeva has not shied away from delivering humorous post-match speeches throughout her career, frequently thanking herself for her displays of late.

But when she was reminded post-match of a promising statistic that could work in her favour to lead her to her first grand slam title, she wanted nothing to do with it.

Three of the past four players who have lifted the trophy in Adelaide in the women's draw have gone on to win the Australian Open, with Madison Keys doing it last year.

In 2023, Novak Djokovic achieved the same feat in the men's singles alongside Aryna Sabalenka, who is also in the women's draw at the 2026 Australian Open.

Prior to 2022 when Ash Barty claimed both events, it was rare that any player would win a title on a lead-up tournament on Australian soil and then go on to win in Melbourne.

But that pattern won't be something the 18-year-old Russian leans into.

"Ah, nope," she said, raising her hand and giggling as she was reminded of the trend.

Andreeva then covered her ears as she continued to laugh.

However, she eventually came around to admit that she knows she could be the next to prove the trend right after a hot start at the grand slam.

"Of course, having a great week of playing before starting the first slam of the year helps a lot. It gives you a lot of confidence," Andreeva said.

"The conditions are a little bit different here ... it is a bit windy and we don't have a roof.

"I know the statistics that the winners of Adelaide do not bad here in Melbourne, but I am not going to think about it.

"I'm just going to take it match by match and we will see if that statistic works for me."

Andreeva will face Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania in the third round.
