Daniil Medvedev slugged with $122,000 in fines after Australian Open meltdowns
Hot-tempered Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev has copped $122,000 in fines in the wake of yet another controversial Australian Open campaign.
The fifth seed was slapped with a $16,000 fine for repeatedly belting a net camera with his racquet in a wild tantrum during the first round, en route to a tense five-set win over Thailand's Kasidit Samrej, the world No.418.
He will also be sent the bill for damaging the net camera, meaning he is set to lose far more than the $122,000 that has so far been billed.

Medvedev was slugged with a monster fine — one totalling $106,000 — for how he behaved on his way to losing in five sets to teen American qualifier Learner Tien in the second round.
Medvedev, a runner-up at three of the last four Australian Open tournaments, incurred a point penalty for chucking his equipment across the court.
And in another eye-popping moment during a match that ended close to 3am, the 28-year-old threatened to smash a ball at a line judge after he was twice called for a foot fault during a tiebreak, resulting in a double fault.

Medvedev also opted to not attend his post-match media conference in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Russian earned $200,000 for reaching the second round, but is likely to forfeit his entire sum through his fines and camera bill.
However, he has raked in $45 million in prizemoney throughout his career, according to the ATP Tour website, so he should be able to get by.
