Master Lock Comanche defies wild conditions to claim line honours in 2025 Sydney Hobart

LawConnect's dominance of the Sydney Hobart has ended after Master Lock Comanche reached Hobart first for line honours in the 2025 event.
It was a moment of redemption for skippers Matt Allen and James Mayo who were on board in 2024 when the yacht had to retire on the first day due to a tear in the main sail.
The winning yacht officially crossed the Derwent River finishing line after two days, five hours and three minutes.

"A moment to savour," caller Gordon Bray said on the event's live stream.
Post-race Allen explained the team was always determined to return after the devastation of 2024.
"Last year was very frustrating but we wanted to come back," he said.
"James [Mayo] and I decided we would come back. We were only going to do it if both of us wanted to come back and we decided to do it and do it at 100 per cent.
"Last year was brutal, but it was unfinished business, we wanted redemption."

All yachts had to contend with wild conditions since leaving Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day with 33 retirements listed.
The crew of LawConnect considered retirement too after having to apply repairs to a ripped sail but ended up finishing second.
HSK Scallywag 100, Law Connect and Master Lock Comanche were all close and battling for first at Peggy's Point on the coast of Tasmania until the latter pushed ahead.
Comanche has now won five Sydney Hobart events under different sponsor names.
The Supermaxi previously won in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2022.
