Aussie popstar-turned-swimmer Cody Simpson reveals swimming career end date

Australian popstar-turned-swimmer Cody Simpson has revealed his intention to retire from the sport following the Olympic Games in Paris.

The freestyle and butterfly sprinter fell short of selection for Tokyo 2020 but remains a feasible chance to make the Dolphins team for Paris 2024.

"I've been doing this every day for over three years now," Simpson posted to Instagram.

"There are only eight months left in my swimming journey which I believe calls for more content and updates on the path.

"Training is going well. I give whatever I have to give every day. Learning a lot about myself. Loving feeling this healthy."

Simpson achieved a career first at the Australian Short Course Swimming Championships in Sydney in September, winning his first outright national title when he took victory in the 100m freestyle, clocking 47.85.

The 26-year-old snared another gold medal at the Short Course Swimming Championships when he won the 100m butterfly in 50.60.

He's since contested the World Cup meets in Berlin, Athens and Budapest, headlined by victory in the 4x100m freestyle in Hungary.

The next edition of the World Aquatics Championships will be held in Doha in February, although the fact it's scheduled in an Olympic year means Australia will be sending an understrength team.

Next year's Australian Swimming Championships will be held in April, before the Swimming Australia Olympic Swimming Trials take place in June.
