Surfers hit the river for a fun ride

When you live in a landlocked country finding somewhere to surf takes plenty of imagination and for Swiss board riders that means hitting the river.

Cyril Inauen and Roland Hauser recently hit Switzerland's Thur River, in the country's north-east, to take on a stationary wave created by the fast-moving flow of the flooded waterway.As the footage shows, there's no paddling out, simply a jump from the river bank and the boys are away riding on a short, punchy and extremely fun looking wave.Of course river surfing is nothing new with board riders tackling the Amazon River, in Brazil, and Germany's River Severn, among a raft of spots that also can be found in ay, Austria and North America, which are all tidal flow waves.In the Amazon, which relies on strong tidal currents between February and March, surfers risk becoming a target for schools of piranha should they come unstuck.And while there's no threat of being chomped on in Switzerland, Inauen and Hauser still had to deal with a fair old challenge - the mass of fallen logs and debris rushing past and submerged rocks.But both show a fair amount of flair as they make the most of the brown walls of water, dropping down the face, bottom turning and carving off the top as though they are riding a beach break anywhere in Australia.It's not quite Bells Beach, Kirra or North Narrabeen, but it sure looks fun.
