Super Bowl ad celebrates US immigration
Super Bowl commericals always cause quite a stir. Now comes one which attempts to highlight just how short-sighted US President Donald Trump is with his anti-immigration order.
An ad by brewing giant Budweiser has already made its debut and will screen again during Superbowl LI between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons.
It details the story of German immigrant, Adolphus Busch, who left Hamburg in 1876 to pursue his own American dream of starting a brewing company.
Bolsch overcomes xenophobia along the way, with a stranger shouting at him upon his arrival in America, "You're not wanted here. Go back home".
He eventually makes his way to St Louis, Missouri, where he meets the man who would later become his business partner, Eberhard Anheuser.
The ad concludes with the tagline, "When nothing stops your dream, this is the beer we drink".
It debuted days after President Trump signed a controversial executive order which indefinitely banned Syrian refugees, and temporarily banned refugees and people from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the US.
Budweiser have moved swiftly to distance itself from any controversy, claiming the ad had been a year in the making and was simply meant to celebrate an American success story.
We can only hope President Trump is paying attention.
