Croatian footballer dies on the pitch after being struck by ball
A football match in Croatia’s third division has come to a heartbreaking end with a player dying on the pitch.
Bruno Boban, the third division’s top scorer, was the victim of a close-range shot to the chest during Marsonia’s clash with Slavonija Pozega.
Boban initially appeared to be fine before collapsing and despite medics attempting to revive the 25-year-old, he was pronounced dead on the pitch 40 minutes later.

Boban’s Marsonia teammates were crestfallen after realising what had happened and struggled to fight back tears.
Despite the incident, the official cause of Boban’s death is yet to be announced.
