'So stoked': Aussie aerial skier tastes World Cup glory on Olympic course

Australian aerial skier Laura Peel has won World Cup gold and secured another crystal globe on the course set to host the sport at the Winter Olympics in February next year.

The Canberra product captured her third crystal globe for topping this season's freestyle World Cup standings with a total of 542 points.

China's Xu Mengtao finished second in the standings with 444 points and Australia's Danielle Scott, last year's crystal globe winner, rounded out the podium with 368 points.

Australian female aerial skiers have now amassed 14 crystal globes over the past 33 years, and after the World Cup meet in the Italian town of Livigno on Friday (AEDT), the only Australian female freestyle skier with more crystal globes then Peel is Jacqui Cooper.

"I am so stoked. Honestly, I couldn't be happier," Peel said.

"It's globe number three. I don't think it gets any easier.

"That's day four on this site now. I've got to say, I really like it. It's been working well for me, I've been jumping well. That's a relief and I'm so excited to come back here for the Olympics."

The Winter Olympics will be held in Italy's Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo from February 6-22.
