Berrick Barnes hadn’t been sighted on an Australian rugby field since 2013 and his return could not have gone any better.

After leaving Australian rugby following a series of concussion-related problems, Barnes has made every post a winner in Japan.

On Saturday he pulled the strings as the Panasonic Wild Knights scored a 15-5 win over the Waratahs in the second match of Global Tens in Brisbane.

Berrick Barnes throws the pass that set up the match-winning try.

With scores level in the second half, it was a Barnes pass and long rung from Kentaro Kodama that gave the visitors a lead they would not surrender.

Barnes’ nous and Kodama’s speed proved too much for a Tahs side that included Israel Folau.

Waratahs coach Darryl Gibson won’t be losing any sleep over the result though, his priority is the upcoming Super Rugby season.
