Super Rugby AU: Brumbies down Rebels 26-20 after all-time falcon blunder

An all-time Matt To'omua-Josh Kemeny falcon blunder proved decisive in the Brumbies' 26-20 Super Rugby AU win over the Melbourne Rebels at AAMI Park on Sunday.

The incident led to Bayley Kuenzle's decisive try, but Stan Sport expert Morgan Turinui pointed out it wouldn't have happened without the effort of a new Wallabies squad member.

"Chuckle about it but what about the chase from Andy Muirhead to force that error," Turinui says.

"You're right, we will chuckle about it," Nick McArdle quipped.

"At first you thought it was a glancing blow but it actually hit him square in the face."

With one round remaining in the regular season, the Brumbies - who have a bye next weekend - are locked into second place and will host a qualifying final against either the Rebels or Western Force.

The Queensland Reds have already booked a home grand final on May 8.

"A great game, always physical against the Rebels," Brumbies captain Allan Alaalatoa said.

"It was a good test moving forward for us."

Despite another gut-wrenching loss, Rebels skipper To'omua wasn't too disappointed with his side's actual performance.

"Ultimately our discipline let us down," To'omua admitted.

"Our cleanout was too slow."
