Sunwolves axed from Super Rugby: Report
It is understood Japanese Super Rugby franchise the Sunwolves have been cut from the competition just three years after their admission.
An official public statement from SANZAAR is expected on Friday afternoon confirming the move.
It is understood the competition will continue in its current format until it satisfies its broadcast deal, meaning 2020 will be the Sunwolves’ final season.
From 2021, Super Rugby will revert to a 14-team round-robin competition.

It is understood Japan had been asked to provide a financial guarantee for its future in the Super Rugby but was unable to do so.
A spokesperson for the Sunwolves said that while the club could satisfy some of the clauses in the agreement, they could not meet all stipulations.
They particularly objected to being asked to pay a participation fee to play in the Super Rugby which was not asked of any other franchise, The Australian reports.
Sunwolves officials and players were informed of their axing on Tuesday night, The Daily Telegraph reports.
