Rugby Australia to take no further action on Lukhan Tui clash with Wallabies fan

Rugby Australia will take no further action on the ugly incident involving Wallabies star Lukhan Tui and a disgruntled fan following Australia's loss to Argentina.

In a statement released on Monday, Rugby Australia Chief Executive Raelene Castle called the incident an "isolated" one and said that RA did not "want to race into any hasty measures".

"This incident was not something you want to see at any sporting event," Castle said.

"Emotions were running high after the match on Saturday night and I understand why Wallabies fans are frustrated after a result like that.

"Wallabies team management have been in dialogue with Lukhan since the incident and he has indicated that he does not wish to pursue the matter any further and therefore no further action will be taken by Rugby Australia."

Following the incident, there was reports that Tui's reaction was triggered by the involvement of a family member in the altercation, a fact which Castle confirmed.

"Two fans came into the area where players families were gathered and were arguing and using offensive language in criticising the players over their performance," she said.

"One of Lukhan’s young family members was physically caught up in this exchange and this prompted the reaction from Lukhan."

Castle said that while she was unwilling to push the matter forward at Tui's request, Rugby Australia will review security measures in light of the incident.

"The interaction between players and fans is an extremely important part of sport and we never want to see an incident like this again," Castle said.

"We want Rugby fans to be able to get up close and personal with their heroes and our Wallabies stars."

Interestingly, Castle's statement on the matter failed to condemn the unruly fan, similar to Wallabies coach Michael Cheika who spoke to reporters on Sunday. 

"I understand how fans get disappointed. I’m disappointed as well," Cheika said.

"I saw he was there in his Wallaby jersey as well, it’s not like he doesn’t want us to win.

"He wants us to win badly. Sometimes that goes pear-shaped."
