Rugby Aust probe Latu drink-driving claim

Rugby Australia are investigating a local media report that Wallabies hooker Tolu Latu was charged with drink-driving in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The Daily Telegraph reported Latu was discovered sleeping in his vehicle in Sydney's eastern suburbs and when tested returned an alcohol reading of 0.135 - a mid-range offence under New South Wales laws.

"Rugby Australia and New South Wales Rugby Union have been made aware today by the Daily Telegraph of an incident involving Wallabies and Waratahs hooker Tolu Latu," a statement read.

"Rugby Australia's Integrity Unit is working with the New South Wales Rugby Union to ascertain all of the facts."

Tonga-born Latu, who has played 12 tests for Australia and was in action for the Waratahs in Brisbane on Saturday night, playing off the bench as NSW won the Super Rugby derby 40-32.

NSW chief executive Andrew Hore said post-match he had no knowledge of the incident until being made aware of the media report and was disappointed considering it followed hard on the heels of the Israel Folau contract termination saga.

"It's something we'll obviously talk to Tolu about as we go through the investigation," Hore said.

Latu had only recently returned from a six-week suspension for a dangerous charge into a ruck against the Sunwolves in February.
