Superstar Levi sisters turn back on NRLW offers to sign new rugby sevens contracts

The superstar Levi sisters have turned their back on rugby league to sign a lengthy new deal with Rugby Australia.

Maddison, 23, and Teagan, 22, have committed to playing rugby until at least the end of 2028.

It means they are on track to represent Australia in rugby sevens at the 2028 LA Olympics.

Only last month News Corp reported the sisters were on the verge of jumping ship to the 13-player code to join the NRLW.

Maddison was the 2024 rugby sevens player of the year and is one of the most prolific tryscorers in the code.

She is currently third on the all-time tryscorers list in women's sevens.

"I'm super excited to extend my contract with Rugby Australia and keep building and developing as a player with this talented bunch of women," the 23-year-old said in a statement on Tuesday.

"There's still so much I want to achieve in the space of rugby sevens and to be able to commit until the next Olympics will help me achieve these goals."

It is a major win for Rugby Australia, which has lost a number of gun women's players to the NRLW in recent years

"Extending Maddi and Teagan's contracts through the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 is a positive outcome for Australian rugby," director of high performance Peter Horne said.

"Both Maddi and Teagan are important players in the women's sevens program and excellent ambassadors for the game in Australia and around the world."

Australia's sevens team will fly to Singapore on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the third round of the world sevens season.
