Wallabies ace Tom Wright has spurned interest from the NRL and overseas rugby clubs to stay in Canberra with the ACT Brumbies until at least 2028.

The Clovelly Eagles junior started his professional career by playing five games for the Manly Sea Eagles in 2018 before returning to rugby.

Wright scored with his first touch in Test rugby in a Bledisloe Cup win against the All Blacks in 2020.

The 27-year-old has now played 37 internationals and, after being rejected by Eddie Jones, is now the incumbent Wallabies fullback and one of the most exciting attacking players in world rugby.

Wright confirmed there were other options on the table but the lure of a home Rugby World Cup in 2027 was strong.

"I'm extremely happy to have my long-term future secured here in Australia and with the Brumbies in Canberra," Wright said.

"As a kid, all I ever dreamed of was representing the Wallabies and with the milestones coming up over the next few years, there's nowhere else I'd rather be playing my rugby.

"I feel I've got a lot of growth still in me as a player and I'll be continuing to work hard to hopefully contribute to success with the Brumbies and the Wallabies."

Australia opens its 2025 international campaign against Fiji in Newcastle on July 6 before the first British and Irish Lions Test in Brisbane on July 19.

"Tom has developed into an excellent outside back and we are happy to have come to an agreement to keep him in Australian rugby for a further three years, taking him beyond the home Rugby World Cup in 2027," Rugby Australia's director of high performance Peter Horne said.

"He has established himself as a consistent and popular member of the Wallabies squad and we feel he is entering the prime of his career as a Test player which is exciting for supporters of Australian rugby with the significant milestones on the horizon."

Wright's first job is trying to spark the Brumbies to their third Super Rugby title.

The club sits second on the ladder and host the fourth-placed Queensland Reds on Saturday.

"Tom has been one of our standout players for the last couple of seasons," Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham said.

"He is a big part of this club and brings with him a huge amount of leadership on and off field. It's wonderful news to have him re-sign with the Brumbies for another three years."
