Wallabies star Noah Lolesio could be at risk of missing the upcoming British and Irish Lions series after he accepted a deal to join a club in Japan.

It is unknown which team Lolesio has signed with in Japan for the 2026 season but the Brumbies have confirmed his departure.

Lolseio's eventual move has cast doubt over his future with the Wallabies, given coach Joe Schmidt's strong stance of not picking players who have signed abroad.

Earlier this year, Waratahs No.8 Langi Gleeson had his invitation to a national camp withdrawn after he inked a contract to join French club Montpellier in 2026.

Lolesio's move to Japan will not be his first international venture as he previously competed in Toulon on a three-match contract.

The 25-year-old took on the deal with Toulon after he was dropped from former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones' 2023 campaign.

Jones opted for the services of Ben Donaldson during that campaign, with the Western Force star continuing to impress on the field in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.

Donaldson has managed an 87 per cent kicking success rate this season in comparison to Lolesio's 62.5 per cent.

But Donaldson does not have the same amount of exposure as Lolesio at Test level.

Rugby Australia do not have an official policy of not picking players who are competed internationally as it stands.

Lolesio will not be back in action with the Brumbies until Saturday April 12 when the Brumbies face the Queensland Reds.
