Wallabies frontrower Benn Robinson has revealed the shocking punishment his face has endured playing rugby after releasing an x-ray showing his badly broken nose.
The scans look more like a road accident victim with a large section of cartilage missing from the front of the 31-year-old's nose.
The damage has been an accumulation of head injuries during Robinson's decade-long career as a professional player with the Wallabies and NSW Waratahs.
Robinson released the scan to News Limited after speaking last weekend about his concerns over concussion for rugby players.
Robinson, who is the president of the Rugby Union Players Association, wants all players entering professional rugby to be given a baseline brain test which would be compared to all future concussion tests.
"This is going to be one of the largest issues in rugby over the next 10 to 20 years, I don’t think we can sit back on this,” Robinson told News Limited.
“I believe we need to be testing players before they enter the professional environment, giving them baseline tests which can then be used for comparison throughout their careers.
“We should do a baseline test, get a scan of the brain, right at the start.
“We don’t want to see rugby players end up with depression, or heaven forbid, do something crazy.”
