Argentine rugby player Daniel Contreras has had the tip of his little finger bitten off during a regional match recently.

The Corsarios veteran was contesting a breakdown when an opposition player reportedly grabbed Contreras’ hand and put the finger in his mouth.

Contreras said he had never heard of anything similar occurring in his 30 years in the game.

“In the 29 years I’ve been playing rugby, I never saw anything like it,” he told Argentina’s La Nacion.

“I could not believe it. The referee asked me to leave the game to see a doctor. I did not react because my wife and my daughters were at the field.”

“Events like this have no relationship with the spirit and values that tout our sport,” a statement from the Tucuman Rugby Union said.

“For that reason, we affirm that there cannot be and must be eradicated. We will take appropriate action and act as established by the regulation.”
