NBA star Paul George is taking an alternative approach to his comeback from a gruesome leg break, playing one-on-one with his pet dog.

The Indiana Pacers shooting guard threw his club’s pre-season into disarray when his leg crumpled underneath him in a shocking injury during a US Basketball scrimmage in Las Vegas.

The 24-year-old fell awkwardly on his right leg after going up for a block on Houston Rockets player James Harden.

WARNING: Watch George's horrific injury

Expected to miss the entire 2014/15 season, George was given at least nine months to heal after undergoing surgery for a compound fracture.

But after just 11 weeks since the devastating injury, George is back on his feet and hitting the courts against, ahem, 'ruff' competition.

In a video he posted online, George shows the injury has not slowed down any of his amazing hand speed, bewitching his pet dog King in a friendly game between mates.

George toys with the dog before tricking it into a defensive mistake with a fake to the left.

He then gives fresh hope to Pacers fans of an earlier than expected recovery by easily making the shot.

However, when it came for King’s turn to attack the hoop, the ball-hound showed he was all hustle and no flair.
