Record Aussie baseball ban over wild brawl

Adelaide Bite pitcher Troy Scott has been slapped with a record Australian Baseball League suspension for his role in a wild brawl during Friday night’s clash with the Melbourne Aces.

Scott received a six week ban and was fined an undisclosed amount over the ninth innings fight that occurred after a number of batters on both sides were struck by pitches.

Footage of the match shows the bench clearing brawl started when Adelaide pitcher Tony Vocca hit Aces veteran and former MLB player Brad Harman on the hip, causing the batter to throw down his bat and helmet and approach the mound.

Bite catcher Chris Adamson tries to restrain Harman when players from both benches charge onto the diamond.

The wild melee lasted two minutes before the diamond was cleared and the match could be completed.

Both Vocca and Hartman received one-match bans and fines while Aces relief pitcher Al Yevoli was also fined.

The Bite went onto win 8-2 in the second match of a four-game series between the two teams that resumes today.
