On one of the biggest days in boxing history, frustrated fans have been left scrambling for fight coverage after pay-per-view connection issues.

UFC and Showtime were forced to apologise after widespread technical difficulties hindered the PPV coverage to customers around the world for the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor bout in Las Vegas.

Angry boxing fans paid $100 to watch the undercard and main card headlined by Mayweather and McGregor, and were understandably upset with the service they received and demanding refunds.

The technical issues even affected those Showtime customers trying to watch other programs on the service.

Though there is no boxing title on the line, the highly publicised fight is expected to break PPV records. But with several thousands of people affected by the coverage outages, should refunds be issued for those customers missing the undercard bouts, the PPV revenue may take a significant hit.

"Due to high demand, we have reports of scattered outages from various cable and satellite providers and the online offering," Showtime said in a statement.

"We will delay the start of the main event slightly to allow for systems to get on track. We do not expect a lengthy delay."
