Devastating moment Aussie athletics' 'White Tiger' realises 0.005 podium miss

Chad Perris could get hardly any closer to landing on the podium.

The Australian sprinting star, nicknamed "The White Tiger", finished fourth in the final of the men's 100m T13 at the Paralympic Games when he was pipped at the line in a pulsating photo finish.

When the times first flashed up on the giant screen, beside the names of both Perris and Japan's Shuta Kawakami was 10.80.

The pair had to wait for the official results to be confirmed via a photograph, with just 0.005 of a second separating the Aussie from the podium.

Kawakami clocked 10.80 (.794) to claim the bronze medal behind Alegria's Athmani Skander Djamil, who won gold, and Norway's Kashafali Salum Ageze with silver.

Perris was speaking with Nine when the results were confirmed.

"F--k me," he said as his hands covered his face.

"10.80 is the fastest I've ever run at a major.

"I'm really happy with that but it's a bit sour missing out by an absolute bee's dick.

"I gave it everything out there, and full credit to my coach Matt Beckenham for getting me up for this event."

The result marks Perris' 100m personal best and means he's set a new national record.

His journey in Paris has been made twice as special for his family as brother Kane made his Paralympic debut in the one-kilometre tandem time trial.

The brothers' events were scheduled in the same hour on Tuesday, with the sprinter set to catch up with his brother following the finals of their respective events.
