Paralympics Australia locks in permanent CEO after predecessor's mysterious pre-Games exit

Paralympics Australia has settled on a permanent chief executive officer following the mysterious departure of Catherine Clark only a month out from the Paris Games.

Cameron Murray, who swapped his Paralympics Australia (PA) head of commercial role for the position of interim CEO following Clark's resignation, has taken on the job on a permanent basis.

"I'm honoured to lead Paralympics Australia into this new era as we create more opportunities for the next generation of para-athletes and work towards a home Games in 2032," Murray said.

"After the successful delivery of our Paris 2024 campaign, we are now focused on delivering a world-leading environment for our para-athletes to thrive, and on strengthening the Australian Paralympic movement by building our connection with the community."

Australia's Minister for Sport Anika Wells announced on the cusp of the Paris Paralympics that medallists would receive the same financial rewards as Olympic medallists: $20,000 for winning gold, $15,000 for silver and $10,000 for bronze.

Australia won 63 medals at the Paris Paralympics, including 18 golds, 17 silvers and 28 bronzes.

Australia won the ninth-highest number of gold medals, behind China, Great Britain, the USA, the Netherlands, Brazil, Italy, Ukraine and France.

"These are exciting times," Murray said.

"But there is still much more work to do to evolve our commercial operations to sustain and expand the Paralympic movement beyond 2032 and ensure more Australians with a disability can pursue their dreams through para-sport.

"Working alongside the incredible team at Paralympics Australia to balance these priorities and to deliver new ways to make an enduring impact is what makes me so humbled and inspired to lead this amazing organisation."

In July, PA announced Clark had resigned as chief executive following a two-and-a-half-year stint in the job, but did not give a reason for her exit.
