Rio Olympics: Bolt claims historic triple triple at Rio
Usain Bolt has written another page in history after claiming an Olympic triple triple by firing the Jamaican men's 4x100m relay to gold at the Rio Olympics.
The extraordinary Jamaican had done it all on on his own until now, winning the 100m and 200m double for the third straight Games.
But to claim yet another slice of Olympic history he needed the assistance of his Jamaican 4x100m relay teammates.
Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake and Nickel Ashmeade set Friday night's final up for Bolt and the greatest track and field Olympian of alltime did the rest, storming home in the anchor leg.
Channel Seven commentator Bruce McAvaney remarked the performance was the "end of the most beautiful story".
Bolt was full of praise for his teammates following the race, joking that he and Powell would "retire together".
"I have to give thanks to these guys because if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have got my third gold medal."
Jamaica clocked a winning time of 37.27 seconds ahead of surprise silver medalists Japan (37.60) and the United States (37.62).
However, the US was controversially denied the bronze medal after being disqualified with a lane infringement handing the trophy to Canada (37.64).
Trinidad and Tobago also ran afoul of the judges and were disqualified.
