Rio Olympics: Bolt wins triple double at Rio

Usain Bolt won the men's 200m final at the Rio Olympics for the third straight time but was clearly disappointed not to run a faster time.

The Jamaican superstar had a good start and grabbed the lead on the bend but he failed to find his best in wet and slippery conditions with a time of 19.78 that was well short of the world record of 19.19. 

He was clearly disappointed with his time as he crossed the finish line after publicly stating his goal to break his own world record and become the first man to run a sub-19 second.

“A sadness for me is actually that it’s a slower time,” he told Channel Seven.

“I really wanted to run faster but I came out here to win and that’s always the first thing.”

Bolt added that he had nothing left to prove but admitted that father time was catching up with him.

"I’ve proved to the world over and over again that I’m the greatest,” he said.

"I keep telling these young boys, ‘I’ll never let you beat me.' I’m getting older, slowing down so I need to get out of the sport.” 

Despite not reaching his goal, Bolt was still too good for the field as he won his eighth gold medal, with tomorrow night's 4x100m the only part of his historic 'triple triple' still remaining.

Canadian young gun Andre De Grasse won silver while Frenchman Christope Lemaitre took home the bronze in a photo finish.
